Fly Fishing

good To Know

Island Park is an angler’s paradise, with some of the best access in the country. Float with a guide, troll with your float tube or boat, or stream fish.

Any person 14 years of age or older must have a valid fishing license to fish in Idaho.

Fishing season is year-round for coho salmon, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, bluegill, and yellow perch.

Henry’s Fork of the Snake River

Henry’s Fork is one of the most famous trout streams in the lower 48, known for its legendary hatches and abundancy of large rainbow trout. Henry’s Lake is the source of the Henry's Fork River. The lake is fed by seven creeks, and by springs in the lake bottom. The water is loaded with weeds and insects for trout. Henry's lake itself is an awesome fishery, beating many state records.

In the winter Henry’s Lake features excellent ice fishing.

Island Park Reservoir

Island Park Reservoir is a beautiful, large reservoir along the Henrys Fork that is stocked with rainbow trout and kokanee. Explore over 60 miles of shoreline from a boat or fish from the bank during spring and fall. The elevation is 6,300 feet above sea level.

Winter offers ice fishing for rainbow trout and kokanee once the ice is safe.

Box Canyon

Below Island Park Reservoir the Henry’s Fork flows into Box Canyon. This 3.5 mile stretch of river produces some of the best fishing you will find anywhere on the river. This fast flowing section is primarily nymphing water due to an abundant food supply consisting primarily of stonefly nymphs.

Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone is a fly-fishing paradise. This summer take in the beauty of Yellowstone from the edge of a river, stream or lake- you will not be disappointed.

Don’t forget to purchase a permint. A Yellowstone National Park fishing permit is required for all in-park fishing.

Yellowstone is home to several game fish, including cutthroat, whitefish, rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout, lake trout, and grayling.
