Height of Summer

RV Park at Sawtelle Mountain ResortThis is RV time at Sawtelle Mountain Resort, and things are in full swing.

With lots of outdoor activities, beautiful scenery and exhilarating weather, there is never a shortage of things for the whole family to do. From fishing, to swimming, to hiking, to 4-wheelin’, to barbecuing, to horseshoes — the list of summer activities goes on and on at Sawtelle Mountain Resort.

Yellowstone Park (for more info, visit the official National Parks site for Yellowstone) is open and is simply gorgeous. Daytime temperatures are in the 70s and occasionally go up to the 80s in lower elevations. Night in the park and nearby can get a little chilly, even at this time of year, so be sure to bring sweaters or windbreakers if you plan to be out at night.

Spring Time Island Park Idaho

The snow has really dissipated quickly during the past few days with temperatures going above 80 degree mark in Yellowstone country. With the snow mostly gone in the valley everything is starting to turn green. All the quaking aspen are just putting out their leaves. Henry’s Lake is full along with Island Park reservoir, with fishing season opening in just a few days. It really looks to be a great spring season in the high country of Yellowstone and Island Park Idaho.

Henry’s Lake Fishing Information - May 27th Fishing Season Opens

Located just 15 miles west of Yellowstone National Park, this high-mountain lake is surrounded by 8-10,000 foot mountains and Targhee National Forest which provide spectacular scenery. The fishing in Henry’s Lake and surrounding streams is a trout anglers dream and is a world renowned fishery. The park, named after explorer Major Andrew Henry, opens the Thursday before Memorial Day and closes October 31, or as weather conditions warrant. After September 15 it is wise to call ahead to see which services are available.

Fishing

Cutthroat trout, averaging three to five pounds; cutthroat-rainbow hybrids of up to 12 pounds; and brook trout up to three pounds abound in the waters of Henrys Lake. This provides a sport fishery that challenges the float-tuber and is equally exciting for a 10-year old dunking a work over the side of the family boat. Excellent stream fishing can also be found in the nearby Henry’s Fork, Madison and Gallatin rivers.

Spring Time in Island Park

The snow is melting quickly in Island Park. Just this week the ice is gone from both Island Park Reservoir and Henry’s Lake. With the snow melting so quickly is it is bringing the rivers up high, so be careful. Mesa Falls will be roaring and a great time to get some photos.

Visit Early to See Bear and Elk

Between now and early June is one of the best times to visit Yellowstone and Island Park, Idaho.  There is plenty to do and see here.  You’ll find a unique combination of winter and spring outdoor sports — and plenty of wildlife.

You can still snowmobile and have a great time.  And if you fish, some of the best fishing is between now through the end of May, before the runoff starts in June.

elkracks.jpgHands down, this is the best time of the year to see bear and elk.  If you want to spot these amazing creatures, you must get here before the masses of tourists start arriving in mid-June and scare them back into the deep woods.

We are a year-round facility.  After a brisk day outdoors in cold snow and deep powder, we have a warm refreshing indoor swimming pool waiting to relax you.

Plan on an early visit to Yellowstone.  You’re in for a treat you can’t get any other time of the year.
